Review by: Tim Canete New Super-Man #17 Written by: Gene Luen Yang Art by: Joe Lalich, Richard Friend, HI-FI Published by: DC Comics
What is This In this issue of New Super-Man we have our first meeting between the Justice League of China and Justice League and while the interactions between the teams are very cool and entertaining there's not much substantial other than that. If anything it's a build-up issue to the climax of the run thus far against All Yang.
The Review The art is rather rough compared to last issues because of change of artist. The colors are always lively compared to other books but it still doesn't have the same life as Bogdanovic.
The reason that JL of China are in America is that they're hunting the scroll capable of unlocking Keenan's powers. Superman gets to teach Kenan what it means to be a law abiding person. Yang does a good job of keeping mystery by not labeling all of them until one twist at the end. This could be an epic showdown.
New Super Man always has a fighting chance but it needs all the stars it can to keep it alive. 6.5/10
Spoiler Talk It was a pretty fun issue. I am waiting for their own Green Lantern even if it won't be appointed. Yang has outdone himself by creating a league of his own. It's smart to expand on one concept and introduce new characters.
Overall, it will be interesting to see the face off against Demons and how this will either free I Ching or make All Yang his nemesis for ever.
Clever moment for Luthor bots not able to target Kenan as Super-Man. I started to wonder if he will get his own Luthor. But the parallels have to stop somewhere.
